February 11, 2010

Well yes we know we said yesterday was a great day, but today was even better. He is now really happy to see me and kicks his legs and waves his little arms. As usual, I have to put my doctor's coat and hat on also a mask, I am surprised he knows it is me! Then I am able to begin to feed him, he now will look up at me and smile as all the cereal comes out of his mouth; it is so nice to see the changes in such a short time. I think anybody reading this that is waiting to travel should really prepare themselves that these babies can just take a while to open up.  I am not saying every baby, but we have seen this with our son, and to see him open each day like a new flower is truly amazing to see. I think we think that all these babies will just be so happy to see us and be like a regular baby who has grown up with a families love. They are not, nor should we expect them to be they have lived in a baby house and as good as it is, nothing compares to their own family. So I guess what I am trying to say is give it time and enjoy them for who they are and also who they will become.

It is truly amazing, he is now sitting up all by himself for longer and longer each time, he is also now really interested in all of the toys; reaching and playing with them all, and we are seeing he already has his favorite ones. He loves to stand and bounce he would love an exersaucer or jolly jumper.

Even though we have only been visiting a short while, I know I will be sad to leave him. We think he is going to be a mamma’s boy and he loves to be held and cuddled. Daddy is the one to rough house with him; it has really been wonderful to see them both together. When talking about Carolyn's son Henry, Dominic sometimes sings “my little boy from Kaz”, last night he said “now we will have our own little boy from kaz”, so sweet. Again, it is very cold -42 so I am sorry we really don’t have ant photos of the outside world of Semey. We are told next week is only going to be -20, wow a heat wave.

Our second visit was changed today. We are now allowed to visit 2.00- 3.30 which is so much better as he was always tired when we went later. Today I also got to feed him lunch, the usual mashed potatoes and meat, rather like an English shepherd’s pie, again he loved it. Also, he loves the tea; today’s tea smelled like flowers. There are about 4 different types of the tea and they all look very different.

Next it was playtime and again we all had a great time. He now really looks for the toys and is using both hands to play. It is so much fun to just watch him explore; he has 2 bottom teeth and when he smiles it is so cute. It is wonderful now to begin to think of him as our son. Our son, what a wonderful thing to be able to write, OUR SON; it brings tears to our eyes. This journey has not been easy, but we chased our dream and now we have a son!!!!!!!!!

ISABEL'S POST

The baby has changed so much.  He is now more active until the end of our visit when he starts to get tired, but we are not allowed to let him sleep so that is hard.  He can now sit up pretty much perfectly.  Before, he was only using his left hand to play with the toys but now he is using both hands.  He loves to suck on all the toys especially the ones with a lot of texture.  He can stand with someone only holding him a little but you hardly have to hold him.

My mom is washing the clothes in the sink or the bath tub which is something I have never seen her do or will see her do after.  She will be happy to have her washing machine and dryer.

I am so happy to have a little brother, I already love him soooooo much. Now if only we could agree on a name.
