February 3, 2010

Well, it is a little after 1:00 am on Wednesday morning, and we have just arrived in Almaty. After leaving our house Sunday eve, we flew from New York to Amsterdam, had a 6 hour lay over, and about half an hour before we were due to land, the captain said due to heavy fog we would have to circle a while. Almost 4 hours later he said we would be heading to Karaganda for a 10 hour lay over.

As I sat waiting in Karaganda, so much has been going through my mind. In 2 days we will be meeting our new child to be. When we left Amsterdam, I felt so emotional thinking what ever happens from here, our family will be changed for ever.

As we were driving through the streets of Karaganda, every thing felt so different. The land is so flat and barren, but looks so beautiful covered with snow. I find myself trying to take each and every detail in so I can remember it to tell our child some day, but it’s not so easy to do having not really slept in the last 48 hours.

So, after a good night’s sleep we will try to explore Almaty, and then early Thursday we will leave to fly to Semey where the real journey will begin. Isabel cannot wait she is sooooo excited, so much so that even after taking Dramamine she stayed awake the whole flight from NY to Amsterdam and the entire lay over, but slept 5 of the almost 11 hour flight, so we are all lacking sleep but cannot wait for our first meeting with our child to be.

We will update again tomorrow with pictures if possible.

I have to say we already miss talking to our good friends and cannot wait to Skype once in Semey. Again, thank you to everybody for their thoughts and prayers. Your support has been wonderful. We feel so lucky to have you all as friends!!!!!

Again, a big thank you to our dear friend Dean who has moved in our house for the time we are gone to take care of our dogs Felix and Oscar.

Until tomorrow. I have to get some rest or I will appear like a crazy woman on Thursday. LOL.
